ADOPTION SERVICES:

IMPORTANT NOTE: We can work with birth parents in the states of  Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia
.

If you are faced with an unplanned pregnancy, you may be feeling overwhelmed.  You may have questions, fears or concerns with no place to turn for answers or support.  At Childplace, we understand that dealing with an unplanned pregnancy can be difficult.  Childplace is here to support you through the many emotions you may experience during this difficult time.  We can help you examine your options.  Our goal is to provide you with an informational base upon which you can make a responsible decision.

If you decide to develop an adoption plan, we can provide the following services:

  • Pre and Post Birth/Placement Counseling
  • Medical Services
  • Legal Services
  • Housing, if needed

PREGNANCY COUNSELING:

Through our free and confidential counseling services, you will begin to explore your personal needs, concerns and issues surrounding your pregnancy.  Our counselors will lovingly help you sort through  your options.  We will answer any questions you may have concerning the adoption process.  We can meet with you in your home, in our office or any place you feel comfortable and as often or as little as you like.  Our goal is to listen and help you explore your options so that you can make an informed decision.  Our counselors realize that an unplanned pregnancy affects you emotionally, spiritually and physically.

If you decide that adoption is the loving choice for you and your baby, our counseling services are available to you even after the adoption is final should you need additional support.  Our services are also available to birth fathers, family members and supportive friends.

MEDICAL SERVICES:

We will assist you in finding appropriate and qualified medical care for your pregnancy.  You may continue seeing your own doctor if you wish, or we can recommend an obstetrician and arrange an appointment for you.  If you have not yet seen a doctor, we will encourage you to begin prenatal care immediately.

LEGAL SERVICES:

It is important that you, your baby and the adoptive couple are protected legally.  Childplace has skilled and experienced legal specialists who understand the sensitive process of adoption.  Each case is different, so the legal process for your situation will be discussed with you.  The amount of time involved is also different.  Some children and mothers are ready for placement from the hospital while other situations may take a few days.

HOUSING:

If you are in need of housing, we will try to help you find a place to live in your area or you can stay in our on-campus maternity and transitional living cottage.  (subject to availability)

COMMON QUESTIONS:

How long do I have to change my mind?
You can change your mind at any time up until you sign the paperwork terminating your rights.  That would not occur until after your child is born and the time frame varies from state to state.  Your adoption caseworker and/or attorney will discuss details with you.

Can I pick a family for my child?
Yes!  You can choose an adoptive family that has been approved by our agency.

Can I see or hold the baby in the hospital?
Yes.  While you are in the hospital, the nurses and doctors will honor your choices.  You have many different options.  You may also decide that you may not want to see or hold the baby.  The decision is yours.

Can I find out anything about my child after he/she is placed with a family?
Yes!  We will share with you what we know.  You have various options through our agency.  However, state laws prohibit written contracts regarding on-going contact.  This can be explained in more detail by your caseworker.

Do I have to pay anything?
No.  You do not owe Childplace anything for placing through our agency.

What if I have other questions?
