Early in 1997, a group of older members at Southside Church of Christ
began meeting once a month for fellowship. The goal was to help each other, assist in community
projects, and enjoy each other’s company.
The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Usually light refreshments, coffee, and tea are served.
What we have done gives you some idea of the programs we have
helped with these last 4 years. Encourage our members with cards, calls, and visits.
Work with the shut-ins of the church.
Assisted with registration for Vacation Bible School.
Work with clothing preparation at the Salvation Army complex.
Distribute clothing to a small church in Eastern Kentucky.
Visit small churches in our Central Kentucky area to encourage
their growth. Worked on paint
preparation for the Can Ridge Shrine located near Lexington.
Some our members are active in Habitat for Humanity and Ronald
McDonald House at the UK Campus. Members of our group volunteer at the Kentucky Veteran’s
Center through the National RSUP local affiliate.
For some fun things, we visit historical shrines, the Kentucky
History Museum, as well as State Parks.
Of course, we do our own potlucks and visit in our members’ homes
for holidays. While all of
our members do not attend right now at Southside, they are life-long
friends and we encourage each other.
For the past 3 years, we have supported with cash donations the
Haiti Christian School of Preaching in Haiti.
This is done on a monthly basis through the Foundation in Abilene,
Texas. This group of
Christians consists of about 25 members.
Most are well above 65 years of age and we encourage seniors to
join our group.
